LED technology is such that bulbs do not have to be replaced nearly as often...which is why they are fast driving other types of lighting fixtures out of business. Some fixtures have up to forty times more useful service life than traditional bulbs, which is a huge increase in capability. Another important consideration is waste disposal: gas discharge lamps like fluorescent lamps or mercury vapor lights have a lot of ancillary considerations when it comes to hazardous waste and disposal.
